As the ship's counselor, Deanna Troi provides stability and interaction with the crew, using her empathic abilities to aide in their missions. Besides her ability to sense the true nature of others the ship encountered, she provided assistance with away teams or in sickbay. Her past liaison with William Riker, drew some amount of friction between the two of them, but always managed to be professional on board. Her relationship would continue to grow with him, eventually leading to marriage, but not without exploring relationships with other crew members including Lieutenant Worf.
