Diamond Select Toys: Behind the Scenes on NBX Wave 10 And Beyond

Posted by: Nick on February 22, 2021 at 04:40 PM CST

We here at CTR were very excited to see the announcement last month in February Previews regarding Wave 10 of the NBX line that was previously cancelled at the end of last year and is now back, although with some small changes. We spoke with Zach Oat from Diamond Select Toys to get some more details on the newest wave and what's next after the conclusion of the main characters from the film.

Regarding this new wave there were some change ups regarding the figures. First, the Monster Under the Stairs is no longer a Walgreens exclusive but is coming as a figure offered separately of Wave 10 and packaged with the Cyclops, which is also a first offering in the line. In the Wave 10 assortment we have Corpse Mom with Zombie Duck and gift box, Corpse Dad with Mr. Hyde (who doesn't appear to come with little Hydes under his hat), and Mrs. Claus with Elf and Penguin. These are still on track to release this summer but no specific date at this point. There is also no diorama with this wave as in the past but Zach said there is always a possibility of dioramas returning in future waves.

With regards to future waves, now that all the main characters are being produced we asked Zach where the line can go from here. He said there are considerations of tertiary characters such as the Gatekeeper and Death who had brief appearances in the film. There is also discussion about doing a Selects series version of the Sally Santa coffin doll and perhaps even a beach attire Jack. Nothing is off the table including a full size Halloween Town Reindeer and Sleigh set. So as long as the fan support is there, more will come.

We next spoke to Zach about the reissue waves. The first two waves are out now and selling really well. There definitely will be more waves in the future of popular characters. One in particular we discussed was the Behemoth who has a hefty secondary market value. Hopefully we'll see this guy again soon and perhaps even the Corpse Boy he was packaged with to give everyone a chance to complete the family with the Wave 10 release. Another dream figure for reissue would be the Hanging Tree which Zach said was something he would definitely like to see.

Lastly, an absence of Cons this year does not mean an absence of exclusive and we confirmed with Zach that we can expect to see an NBX exclusive for virtual SDCC this year. No details at this point we can expect to see something around June.

We'll net see more from DST in April during their virtual event which we be more like a booth walkthrough than online reveals, so it should give us our Con/Toy Fair fix that we have all come to expect. Until then keep tuning back for more DST news and check out the March Previews Catalog.
