Hasbro's G.I. JOE Q&A Session: The Answers!
Posted by Curto on June 14, 2011 at 05:12 PM CST:

As part of Hasbro's bi-monthly Q&A session, Cool Toy Review passed on 3 of your burning questions and now we've got the answers for you.

Cool Toy Review: I know that you have stated that playsets won't sell but we got an awesome PIT set with the ROC line and it seemed to perform well, we have seen big vehicles with the Star Wars line perform well, perhaps now might be the time to try and tackle re-releasing maybe some playsets like the Joe Headquarters or the Terror Dome for perhaps a small cost than the PIT and see how that works. if the Headquarters and the Terror Dome were around the $50-$75 price tag I bet that they would fly off the shelves.

Hasbro: Man - you guys are tenacious! We would love to have the ability to do playsets and large vehicles. The guys (and girls) on the team are fans as well and would love them for our own collection so we have been racking our brains to figure out how to make it work. Unfortunately, these playsets don't perform well enough to make it worth the time and cost of development. We hope that one day we will have the ability to justify making playsets again, but we just don't see it in the near future.

Cool Toy Review: Is there an opportunity to still see some of the cancelled items we have found via ebay in recent past? (figures like Night Force Falcon, Tiger Force Roadblock, POC arctic Duke, City Strike Scarlett, and Quarrel) I assume this would be easier to complete as the tools are already available. Movie figures could have replacement heads on them as well if need be.

Hasbro: Good question. The "magic of the internet" nowadays often times gives consumers a window to what might have been, through the prototypes which are sometimes found on the secondary market. Many times, what shows up as a "prototype" online will never make it to market. That being said, we do maximize our tooling library and use weapons and parts from some of these figures. The specific characters you've mentioned are not going to be featured in the near future though.
