TF2008 PR: Hasbro Indiana Jones
Posted by Curto on March 1, 2008 at 01:30 PM CST:
As you may have guessed, there are a lot of fans eagerly-awaiting the return of Indiana Jones, not only to the big screen, but also to the toy aisles! But Hasbro is getting ready to pull out all the stops by creating a fun toy line that even they can't wait to get their hands on! There's a lot of passion behind each and every piece in the new 2008 collection, and it clearly shows.

Basic Figures
Since this is not a "one and done" line, meaning it will be an ongoing toy line, not every character will be offered up right away. There will be multiple Indiana Jones figures, which should come as no surprise (the line IS named for him, after all). These figures will offer a mix of bulit-in action features as well as super articulated sculpts.

Wave 1 will focus on characters from Raiders of the Lost Ark, including Indy, Sallah, Marion, Belloq, Cairo Swordsman, Monkey Man, and a German Soldier. Look for the debut in stores May 1st.

Wave 2 will feature characters from the new movie, Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, including 2 Indys, 2 Mutt Williams, Irena Spalko, Dovchenko, Russian Soldier, Cemetary Warrior, and an Ugha Warrior. This wave is also set to debut on May 1st.

Wave 3 (due in July) will put the spotlight on The Last Crusade, although none of the figures were shown, Dr. Henry Jones and a young Indy were mentioned during the Q&A session. One would assume Indy would be included as well.

Wave 4 isn't due until September, and will focus on Temple of Doom. None of the characters were discussed, although a Thugee Guard was shown as a preview.

Deluxe Figures
In the Deluxe line, look for multiple Indy figures, as he comes packed with an assortment of large accessories, or action feature environment pieces. Also, this is were we'll see figure 2-packs, both for army-builders and alternate deco versions of the carded characters. Plus, smaller vehicles like motorcycles and the Arabian Horse will be part of this assortment.

Vehicles
There are a number of larger-scale vehicles planned as well, specificall the Desert Cargo Truck and the German Troop Car, to recreate the scene from Raiders of the Lost Ark. But it's not ALL about Raiders, as we'll see the Jungle Cutter from the new movie as well, although that was not on display in the showroom.

Playsets
There is at least one playset for thie line. Building upon the Mustafar Duel playset from 2005's Revenge of the Sith toy line, the Akator playset includes a number of action features to recreate scenes from the film, and there is also room for smaller pieces to connect to it in the future, expanding upon the play value.

Adventure Heroes
Indy dares to get cute! The popular Hasbro "Heroes" line now includes Indy characters! There will be 15 2-packs in 2008, split up as follows:
Raiders of the Lost Ark - 6 sets, due May 1st
Kingdom of the Crystal Skull - 3 sets, due May 1st
Temple of Doom - 3 sets, due June
The Last Crusade - 3 sets, due September

12" Figures
Hasbro will be making a return to the 12" line in 2008, with 9 figures, all featuring action features and sounds. As with the other toy lines, the initial focus will be on Raiders of the Lost Ark and Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

Mighty Muggs
Indy dares to get trendy! The new Mighty Muggs craze jumops over to Indiana Jones with new figures for Indy, Cairo Swordsman, and Mola Ram. Also revealed were the Monkey Man and Dr. Henry Jones.

Games
The Akator Temple Race Game looks interesting, as players must move down a collapsing spiral staircase for reasons too spoiler-ish to reveal. There's also a DVD Adventure game (not shown), and of course a series of puzzles.

And The Rest!
The "Mash-Ups" continue with "Taters of the Lost Ark" Mr. Potato Head, although this will come with the theme song built into the hat. And for role-play afficionados, you can pick up Indy's whip or Mutt's sword for hours of adventure!
