Last year we thought Monster High had that special mix of creativity and cool that would make a it a pop culture phenomenon people talk about for years to come. We think we were right as the freaky fab crew's popularity soared to new heights in 2013. Last year, more ghouls joined the student body and the line was even spun off with Ever After High--a collection of fairy tale favorites facing the growing pains of high school--joining the Mattel brand portfolio. While we thought MGA's Novi Stars dolls were well-designed and included clever play gimmicks that actually worked quite well, the lines short shelf-life was further indication that Monster High has a death grip on the girls' toy aisles. When Hasbro resorts to dressing up their My Little Pony packaging to mimic Monster High's you know these dolls truly are to die for. Monster High is our 2013 Girls Line of the Year.
