Cool Toy Review 2013 Year in Cool Toys: Retail Collectible of the Year
Published by Rich on January 13, 2014 at 06:13 AM CST |

It was forty-seven years in the making, but fans of the 1960s-era Batman finally got their wish--figures based on the classic Batman television series! While the wait wasn't as long for those us who grew up watching Adam West and Burt Ward don the identities of Batman and Robin in syndication, it was a tiring wait nonetheless. Mego's World's Greatest Superheroes line and to some extent their Comic Action Heroes (aka Pocket Heroes), as well as Kenner's Super Powers gave us figures and vehicles that had a close resemblance to the '60s series, but they didn't quite make the mark. Mattel stayed true to the '60s era with slender, almost gangly silhouettes of dynamic duo--a stark contrast to the muscle-bound super heroes many collectors were accustomed to. The figures are well-detailed down to the bunches on the tights and include spot-on character likeness of the heroes and villains we grew up watching on T.V. If the figures aren't enough, the accompanying Batmobile is the icing on a long awaited cake. Mattel's '66 Batman line is evidence that persistence pays off and while the wait was long, it was worth it. Batman Classic TV Series is our choice for Retail Collectible of the Year.
