Mezco Donates Hellboy To Museum Of The Moving Image
Posted by Curto on July 7, 2008 at 12:00 AM CST:
New York- Standing beneath the towering visage of a glowering Hellboy, Mezco?s Director of Special projects ?handed off? various items from the new Hellboy 2:The Golden Army line of action figures to representatives from Museum of the Moving Image. Among the items donated were prototypes of the new film?s main characters; Hellboy, Abe Sapien, Liz, Wink, and Prince Nuada. Also donated were the concept sketches for the action figures. Drawn by Mezco design team member Michael ?Gorilla? Pasquale, the sketches represent one of the first steps in the process of turning characters from film into action figures.

Set to be released in July 2008 and directed by Academy Award Winner Guillermo Del Toro, Hellboy 2:The Golden Army, continues the exploits of Hellboy with a bold new story involving an evil elf prince and a secret weapon of unimaginable power.

Natalia Fidelholtz, Registar of Museum of the Moving Image exclaimed that she was thrilled to accept the items on behalf of the museum. While the museum is currently closed for a major $65 million expansion and renovation, the Hellboy prototypes and sketches will nevertheless be accessible on the museum's online Collection Catalog at http://collection.movingimage.us/index.php?search=mezco.

The prototypes will be on view as part of its core exhibition, Behind the Screen, in a section devoted to licensed merchandise.

Hellboy 2: The Golden Army opens nationwide on July 11, 2008. Mezco's Hellboy action figures are available now at finer toy retailers worldwide, including ToysRUs , as well as MezcoDirect.com

Museum of the Moving Image advances the public understanding and appreciation of the art, history, technique, and technology of film, television, and digital media. It does so by collecting, preserving, and providing access to moving-image related artifacts; screening significant films and other moving-image works; presenting exhibitions of artifacts, artworks, and interactive experiences; and offering
educational and interpretive programs to students, teachers, and the general public. Construction is currently underway on a major expansion of the Museum, designed by architect Thomas Leeser. The project entails a complete renovation of the existing first floor and construction of a three-story addition housing a new theater, screening room, galleries, and a multi-classroom education center.
