Hasbro: Starting Lineup Wave 1 Impressions

Posted by: Nick on November 17, 2022 at 11:21 AM CST

Thanks to our friends at Hasbro for providing us with a copy of their first wave of figures.

When we heard that Hasbro was rebooting the old Starting Lineup figures as fully articulated 6" Marvel Legends/Black Series style figures, we were beyond excited. We'd been dreaming of something like that for years. And now having these in-hand we have to say we're really impressed. The details are incredible and they are lots of fun to pose. The pinless joints are inobtrusive visually and function well. Each figure comes with 6 total hands, a "flight stand" and a trading card. The extra hands allow for more realistic poses and add a lot. One hand has the basketball permanently attached, so you don't have to worry about attaching it or trying to keep it balanced in the hand. The jersey is a separate flexible rubber piece, as are the lower shorts. There is a hidden ab-crunch and butterfly shoulder joints under the jersey. Due to this design, certain poses may lift the front or back of the jersey too high, especially on the larger figures of Embiid and Antetokounpo, so you may need to work with them a little to find a good visual/posing balance. The fully licensed and accurate shoes are a great detail that adds realism and really makes these feel like little replicas of the player. The included stand is very nice too. Honestly, we'd say these are among the best 6-inch figures Hasbro has ever done when everything is taken into consideration.

Each figure can be pre-ordered at HasbroPulse for $49.99. Much is made about toy pricing lately, and as with any toy your mileage may vary on what you feel is affordable or "worth it" for you to collect, but again now that we have these in-hand we'd say they are well worth it for all interested parties.
